Giving public art a proper address

WHAM Office already existed across cities before it properly existed online. Bart Warnier curates and produces murals, hypecourts, exhibitions and limited editions, connecting artists with clients in both public and private spaces. His projects include commissions for cities such as Sint-Niklaas, Dendermonde and Lokeren, but also larger cultural productions such as the NAFT festival for which he organised multiple artistic endeavours.
The website therefore had to do more than collect attractive pictures. A city looking for a curator needs different proof than someone buying an edition. An artist wants to understand the context. A potential partner wants to see that ambitious ideas can survive budgets, permits, production and Belgian weather. The challenge was to make that range feel coherent without reducing WHAM to one neat label.

I built the site like a digital exhibition space: a clear entrance, an intuitive route and enough room for every project to carry its own character. Murals, public commissions, exhibitions, hypecourts and editions were brought together in one visual archive, with the artist, location, client and partners clearly identified where relevant. The structure shows that WHAM is not merely selecting artwork; it is connecting the right people and carrying projects from an initial idea into the street, gallery or city. The current site reflects that range through dedicated project, exhibition, edition and background sections.
Visually, restraint did most of the work. Direct navigation, generous imagery and minimal explanation keep the website from competing with the art. The webshop could move later. There was no reason to force every ambition into the first launch when the immediate need was a credible digital address for conversations with cities, artists, collectors and future collaborators.
The result: less “Still no website?” and more evidence that WHAM can turn a blank wall, an empty court or an ambitious cultural idea into something people stop to look at.
